There are muffins… and then there are maple bacon muffins. These are the kind you pull out of the oven and suddenly your kitchen smells like a cozy Sunday brunch at a mountain cabin. Buttermilk makes them tender, maple syrup brings just the right touch of sweetness, and crispy bacon—well, that’s the magic touch.
If you’ve never had a muffin that flirts with both sweet and savory, this is your moment. They’re golden, fluffy, and topped with crumbled bacon and brown sugar that caramelizes into a crackly, irresistible top. Trust me, these don’t last long.
Whether you’re prepping for a weekend brunch, a holiday breakfast, or just need a little joy baked into your Monday morning, these muffins are easy to whip up and impossible to forget.

Variations
- Add 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar for a more rich and savory experience!
- To make this gluten free, substitute the flour with your favorite gluten free flour blend.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup melted butter (1 cube)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 4 strips crumbled (or thinly cut) thick-cut cooked bacon (can also use 6 strips regular cut bacon)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (to sprinkle)
- 1-2 strips crumbled (or thinly cut) cooked bacon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all the muffin batter ingredients until well combined. (No need to overmix—just until everything is incorporated.)
- Grease a muffin tin with oil or line with muffin papers.
- Fill each muffin cup with about 1/4 cup of batter.
- Sprinkle the tops of each muffin with a little brown sugar and your reserved bacon crumbles.
- Bake at 425°F for 5 minutes. Then, without opening the oven, reduce the temperature to 300°F and continue baking for another 20 minutes, or until muffins are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove muffins from the tin while still hot to prevent steaming, and let them cool for a few minutes before enjoying.
